AusRegistry Goes Live July 1st, 2002

Australian Internet users can expect better pricing and enhanced data integrity and security when the new wholesale provider of names in the com.au, net.au, org.au, asn.au and id.au names spaces, AusRegistry, goes live on July 1st, according to AusRegistry CEO, Simon Delzoppo.

Delzoppo said Australian Internet users would benefit from the new registry because it would use the latest technology and was the first in the world to be built using EPP version 6 Domain Name Registry Software.

"We are the first in the world to implement this software, which will set the technical benchmark for registry systems worldwide," he said.

Delzoppo said the company had committed extensive resources to meet the stringent technical requirements outlined by the .au Domain Administration (auDA).

"We are doing everything we possibly can to ensure the integrity of this very important database is maintained," Delzoppo said.

"This includes the establishment of three data centres, including the Connect data centres in Melbourne and Sydney and the Verio data centre in the United States," he said.

"We have also enhanced the registry by enabling faster resolution of browsers, quicker information updates and providing additional security features."

AusRegistry's Managing Director of Sales and Marketing, Adrian Kinderis, said from July 1st, id.au Domain Names would be available to Australian individuals for the first time.

"id.au gives Australian individuals the opportunity to register their own domain and own a truly personalised email address for life," he said.

He also said the focus for Domain Names could now be segmented under the new regime because AusRegistry will manage all five Second Level Domains (2LDs), com.au, net.au, org.au, asn.au and id.au.

"Previously each 2LD was managed by a separate company so the .au namespace was clouded by inconsistent messages that fragmented the way the public viewed the purpose of each 2LD," he said.

AusRegistry's consistent approach to promoting all .au domain names ensure registrants will benefit from choosing the most suitable Domain Name for their business or individual needs.

"Each Domain Name has a specific purpose and target market, rather than a "one domain fits all" approach that has existed until now," Kinderis said.
