AusRegistry Goes Live Today
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - July 1, 2002
Today is 'Go Live' day for AusRegistry, the new registry, wholesale provider of, Domain Names in com.au, net.au, org.au, asn.au and id.au. AusRegistry CEO, Simon Delzoppo, said the Registry would provide Australian Internet users with additional stability and security because it used the latest technology and was the first Registry in the world to be built using EPP version 6 Domain Name Registry Software.
"We are proud to be the first Registry in the world to implement this version of the software which will set the technical benchmark for registry systems worldwide," said Delzoppo. "We are using the same technology that will be used to operate the .org top-level domain if our joint bid with UK-based Poptel for the registry is accepted.'
Delzoppo also said AusRegistry would provide Internet users with greater data integrity, a more competitive pricing regime and a highly efficient consolidated registry system. "For many years now the .au landscape has suffered a fragmented and ad-hoc development. AusRegistry now manages five domains which means the public can now expect a uniform and consistent registration system.
AusRegistry's Managing Director of Sales and Marketing, Adrian Kinderis, added that, "Today is the first time that a personal domain space has been provided exclusively for Australians. id.au gives Australian individuals the opportunity to register their own name and own a truly personalised email address that can be theirs for life," he said. "The interest in id.au has been very high, with strong results from an online Yahoo campaign and feedback from Registrars themselves."
Australian internet users can also expect the new regime to bring with it cheaper pricing, Kinderis added. "AusRegistry has reduced the wholesale price of all five domains by more than half. We have already seen evidence that registrars will pass these savings on to the public. For example, id.au has been priced as low as $30.00 for two years".
