New Wholesale Provider of .au Domains on Track to go Live
May 10, 2002
Simon Delzoppo, CEO of AusRegistry today announced, "As the new Registry for Domain Names in the .com.au, .net.au, .org.au, .asn.au and .id.au names spaces, we believe AusRegistry will make a significant step forward for the Domain Name industry when it goes live, as expected, early next month."
As a final stage in the development of the Registry project, AusRegistry is going through auDA's Registry Acceptance Testing.
Mr. Delzoppo also said the registry would introduce a world-first to the Australian market.
AusRegistry, a subsidiary of Australian-based Domain Name registrar, RegistrarsAsia, will be the first Registry in the world to meet the new international registry protocol standard by implementing EPP version 6 software.
"We are proud to be the first registry in the world to implement this software which will set the technical benchmark for registry systems worldwide," Mr Delzoppo said.
Further enhancements by AusRegistry will benefit Internet users by providing quicker browser resolution and faster Name Server updates than any other registry currently operating.
Mr Delzoppo said the company had committed extensive resources to meet the stringent technical requirements outlined by the .au Domain Administration (auDA) when the regulator awarded AusRegistry the tender to operate the new Registry in December last year.
"We are pleased to have accepted the challenge of developing our systems and infrastructure," he said.
Mr. Delzoppo said the agreement meant AusRegistry's parent company, RegistrarsAsia, would no longer operate as a registrar and reseller in the .au namespace. It would instead focus on its core business of top-level domain registration, including the registration of .biz and .info domains.
AusRegistry's Managing Director of Sales and Marketing, Adrian Kinderis, said because AusRegistry has become the registry (wholesale provider) for Domain Names in com.au, net.au, org.au, asn.au and id.au, the market would now receive a more consistent message about the purpose for each.
"Previously each 2LD was managed by a separate company so the .au namespace was clouded by inconsistent messages that fragmented the way the public viewed the purpose of each 2LD," he said.
".com.au has benefited from extensive market exposure ensuring its domination in the au name space. The result of this means it has become the 'generic' Domain Name for any registrant unsure of how to position itself within the au name space. This will change with AusRegistry's consistent approach to promoting all domains."
